J O J O B A

Jojoba, pronounced Ho-Ho-Ba is one of my favorite mediums to use for massage therapy, for facial massage with gua sha tools, and in the {have a soak} product line. I could talk about jojoba all day, so this is the first post in my jojoba series to give you more ideas on how you can use this amazing medium as a part of your personal care routine.

Jojoba does not have a shelf life unlike the following oils that will go rancid after a specific amount of time. In fact, jojoba isn't an oil at all! It is a liquid wax ester that is the closet thing in the plant world to our own sebum that our skin produces. When an oil becomes rancid, it has a very distinct and unpleasant smell. Since a little jojoba goes a long way you can enjoy the solar infusions and jojoba blends for a long time without the worry of the bottle becoming rancid before your finish using the product.

SHELF LIFE

  • almond oil: 6 months to 1 year

  • apricot oil: 1 year

  • argan oil: 2 years

  • avocado oil: 1 - 1.5 years

  • coconut oil: 2 - 4 years

  • grapeseed oil: 3 months to 1 year

  • mango butter: 1 year

  • shea butter: 2 - 4 years

  • sunflower seed oil: 1 year

USES. The uses for jojoba are many! So I will start with my two favorite applications and uses.

Every day moisturizing: use immediately after your shower or bath. Start with 5 - 10 drops for each body part until you become familiar with the product. Another amazing quality of jojoba is that it absorbs so nicely into your skin so you won't experience a greasy feel after it's application. If you find that you have some greasiness on your body after an application, try spending more time massaging the jojoba into your skin and use less product for your next application. Jojoba softens and conditions the skin.

Gua sha: Apply 5 - 10 drops to your face, neck and chest for your at home gua sha routine. It offers a perfect glide on the skin for your gua sha tool use. Jojoba is gentle enough to use for any age, even babies and is noncomedogenic so it won't clog your pores. You can even apply a few drops of jojoba to a cotton pad or q tip to help with make up removal. It's especially gentle to use for removing eye make up.
